Hallsburg Elementary School Bicycle Safety Event

WBC Volunteers to Help Kids

The Waco Bicycle Club has been providing a bicycle safety check for students at the Hallsburg Elementary School for many years. This event helps to insure that every student has a bicycle that is mechanically safe to ride. History has shown us that we will be working on about 140 bikes.

Hallsburg Elementary School Bicycle Safety Event
Wednesday and Thursday March 13 and 14, 2024
4 PM to 8:30 PM

Rusty needs to hear from you. Anyone can help. Here’s a list of some of the jobs we do.

  • Check in bikes while interacting with kids and parents.
  • Adjust helmets. Very important since most kids don’t wear them correctly.
  • Lube chains, air up tires, adjust brakes and other minor repairs
  • Assist those with the more technical skills.

Oh, and they feed us too! This event is well organized and much appreciated by the families at the school.

Please let Rusty Hansgen know if you can help out on either of the two nights and if so, what time frame you will be able to work and reply to Rusty at [email protected].

You don’t have to be an expert bicycle mechanic to help. We need help airing up tires, replacing flat tubes, and checking helmet fit on the students. This is also a good opportunity for you to advance your bicycle wrenching skills as we will have several experienced mechanics on hand. In general, we will be checking the bikes for proper reflectors, tightness of all hardware, brake functionality, shifting functionality, headset adjustment, bike fit, and lubrication.

If you have them, bring a repair stand, bike tools, and floor pump. We will have an assortment of repair parts available.

DIRECTIONS:
From loop 340, take Route 6 South toward Bryan/Marlin. Exit at Hallsburg Road and follow FM3222. Hallsburg Elementary School will be approximately 2 miles down FM3222 on the left. The event will be in the gym.
