Impromptu Beginner Road Ride
posted June 19, 2010
The WBC doesn’t currently have a Beginner Road Ride, but an impromptu email was sent out to club members that there would be one on Saturday morning, June 19, 2010. Nine people thought this would be a great way to start the day!

VP Rickey found a friend.

Getting ready to take off…

Action Shot

What’s she taking a picture of?

This! The deal was that everyone could ride as far as they wanted to and then turn around. This was the last picture of the whole group before our first two headed back.

The other photographer was also busy taking pictures.

Between the above pictures and the next pictures, two more folks headed back. Below is the hill going down into Mother Neff State Park. The photographer is yelling, “Slow Down, Slow Down!”

Well, maybe not THAT slow!

And then there were three! Two headed back here while the three up front did a nice ride though Mother Neff State Park, making their ride a nice loop.

As it turned out, one of the three had three flats and the group ran out of spare tubes and had to get sag support in. They ended up getting in about the same mileage as the two that turned around at Mother Neff (about 38ish miles, average speed about 11-12 mph – give or take depending on who the rider was), but they got to see more country.
These impromptu Beginner/Slower-type road rides may happen periodically during the summer months until a club ride of this sort starts up again. If you would like to lead a Beginner Road Ride for the WBC, contact one of the officers. If you would like to be put on the current non-club Beginner/Slower-type Saturday morning road ride email list, email the newsletter editor of the WBC and she’ll be happy to put you on the list. The non-club rides will always start a bit west of Waco on Hwy 84 and head even farther west on back roads that have very little traffic.
